No matter what you’ve been diagnosed with, the components of this phase are foundational to your healing journey. They’ll prepare you for true detox by opening your energy and drainage pathways. This will help minimize “hiccups” or side effects along the way.
Do you have low energy? Is it difficult for you to sweat with exertion? Do you have a bowel movement 1 time or less per day? Do you experience itchy skin or rashes? Do you feel puffy or swollen? Are you sensitive to alcohol? Do you experience chronic pain, muscle soreness, or muscle fatigue?
If you answered yes to 3 or more of these questions, it is clear your drainage pathways are blocked and congested. It is ESSENTIAL to support and open drainage pathways BEFORE beginning a detox to effectively address health-related symptoms, get to the root cause, and heal for good!

Advanced TUDCA and Bowel Mover were previously included in this step. Why were they removed?
Recently, small modifications have been made to our protocols to make them more effective, better tolerated, and highly customizable. In clinical practice, we noted that Advanced TUDCA could contribute to increased fatigue and other symptoms in some individuals, and was better tolerated in Steps 2, 3, and 4. For this reason, Advanced TUDCA is now included in Step 3 of the Foundational Protocol. Bowel Mover is now a protocol add-on and not included in any step or phase, taking into consideration that not every person will require additional digestive support.*
Can the supplements in Step 1 cause or worsen existing symptoms?
Since all of the supplements in this step support the body’s natural detoxification processes, it’s possible to experience mild detox symptoms, such as bloating, fatigue, constipation, headaches, or gas.* This will depend on an individual’s toxic load and varies from person to person. If an individual experiences excess reactions, we recommend introducing one supplement at a time (and starting with a half dose) in the order listed on the dosing chart. Note that if the supplements in this step aren’t well tolerated at a regular or half dose, it’s recommended for the patient to do the Comprehensive Protocol instead of the Foundational Protocol — as this suggests the body’s needs for support are greater.
Do any of the supplements interact with medication?
Always consult a licensed healthcare practitioner when introducing a new supplement. As a general guideline, it’s recommended to take all supplements at least two hours away from prescription medications.
Do the supplements have to be taken with food, or can they be taken without?
All of the other supplements in this step are recommended to take between meals for maximum potency. However, if patients are sensitive to any of the ingredients, they can take them with meals.
What’s the difference between the Foundational Protocol and the Comprehensive Protocol?
The Foundational Protocol is a four-month approach to supporting detoxification.* It’s intended for individuals who are looking to periodically support cleansing for an overall wellness boost.* It’s designed to balance the gut microbiome, increase energy levels, and support digestive and immune health — but is not as extensive as the Comprehensive Protocol, which covers more specific areas of health.* The Comprehensive Protocol is an in-depth approach to supporting detoxification, intended for those who are looking to address their health at the root level and require increased immune and gut support.* Completing the protocol over a prolonged period (9+ months) provides the body with sufficient time (and nutrients) to support system balance through detoxification.*
